The award was based on the research Dr. Jury is doing at Trent and with colleagues at the University of Toronto and University of Melbourne in using nuclear technology to develop a device that will detect landmines. Dr. Jury's work has been endorsed by the Canada Landmine Foundation, which raises funds for the eradication of antipersonnel landmines worldwide. Landmines kill and maim thousands every year. Dr. Jury's research group includes computer scientist Dr. Richard Hurley. Their technology is also being applied to medical diagnostic imaging that will enable greatly enhanced resolution and faster radiography scans of patients. ![]()
