Jim Doran '73 September 29, 2001 saw a group of Trent alumni get together in Edmonton for a little "Head of the Trent" revelry. This has been an annual event since 1995, always occurring simultaneously with the "real" Head of the Trent in Peterborough. We convened again this year at The Sherlock Holmes Pub (Motto: The Birthplace of the Edmonton Chapter of the Trent University Alumni Association) in Edmonton's trendy Old Strathcona neighbourhood. As a measure of how important this event has become to alumni in Alberta, we had people attending from as far away as Lethbridge, Calgary, and Vilna. Those in attendance included (in alpha order): Frank Barry '64, Chris Bates '89, Mike Bingley '95, Margaret Burnfield '90 (and her fiance, Sean Henderson), Melanie Busby '75, John Cotton '70, Goldie Edworthy '73, Neville Ferguson '72, Jane Starr '76, Kerry Tomlin '95, Wendy Topic '97, Katie White '83, Pam Willoughby '70, and your scribe. Special thanks go to Mike Bingley for making the longest trip to attend the event about a six hour drive from Lethbridge. Kerry Tomlin made a three hour trip from Calgary to attend, and Frank Barry had a drive of about an hour and a half. Kerry is going to try to reactivate the dormant Calgary Chapter in order to cut her (and Mike's) travel time to Trent events. (They're both welcome to come to Edmonton any time, though!) Frank is from the first class at Trent, and it's always interesting to hear his stories of the days when students had to wear gowns to attend classes in the old Rubidge Hall. The first photo captures some of those in attendance. Left to right are Mike Bingley, Kerry Tomlin, John Cotton, (Frank Barry is almost visible between Kerry and John), Neville Ferguson, Melanie Busby, Chris Bates, Wendy Topic (with Jane Starr partially obscured behind her), Goldie Edworthy, and Katie White. The second photo shows, from left to right, Mike Bingley, Kerry Tomlin, Frank Barry, John Cotton, Neville Ferguson, Jim Doran, Melanie Busby, Katie White (foreground), Jane Starr (behind), Chris Bates, Goldie Edworthy, Wendy Topic, Pam Willoughby (behind), and Margaret Burnfield. The group will try to get together again early in the new year, after the holiday season frenzy dies down.
