In 1971, there was sufficient hockey interest at Traill College to form two hockey teams for the first time. In the wisdom of the dominant "we wanna win" players, Traill 1 was stacked, whereas Traill 2 was dreadful. Traill 1 lost in the play-offs, while Traill 2 went 0-11 and partied after every game. The next season, a bunch of good, yet sensible, players left Traill 1 to play for Traill 2. The performance improved modestly and the parties continued. In 1973, The Trend became a focal point at Traill College and decided to adopt Traill 2. The team was re-born as Team Trend and continued to improve its on-ice performance, while maintaining a consistently high standard of celebration. In 1976-77, Team Trend excelled beyond all expectations and won the championship game in dramatic fashion that is still reverentially recalled. To help Team Trend celebrate its victory, alumni were invited to play a challenge hockey game and participate in our self-created Awards Banquet. Thus began the annual Team Trend Alumni Weekend. At its peak, the Team Trend Alumni Weekend drew over 125 alumni and featured "Early Bird Arrival" on the Thursday night, hockey games on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, a Family Skate, and Awards Banquet. This year's Team Trend Alumni Weekend will be held on March 22 and 23 in Lakefield. Hope to see you there. For more information, contact the Alumni Office 748-1573, 1-800-267-5774.
